When should I buy?
As part of the Affordable Care Act, medical insurance is now guaranteed issue for everyone, but there are very specific times during which you can enroll or make changes:
- Open Enrollment: 11/1/18-12/15/18 for coverage beginning 1/1/19
- Special Enrollment: Certain life changing events like marriage, divorce, aging off a parent’s plan, or losing your job may give you a 60-day window to be eligible to enroll mid-year
What kind of plan can I get?
- Platinum plans covers roughly 90% of medical costs
- Gold plans cover roughly 80% of medical costs
- Silver plans cover roughly 70% of medical costs
- Bronze plans, including HSAs, cover roughly 60% of medical costs

When should I buy?
Dental insurance can be purchased throughout the year. Most plans (PPOs) will have waiting periods before certain services begin; those waiting periods begin when your plan starts.
